    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    It is already August. How fast the summer seems to go when everyone is having fun.
    This summer we have had several severe thunder storms. Other than the lightning, the rain has tremendously reduced the chance for forest fires. It is interesting to watch the strikes of lighten move down the lake, as long as they are on the far side and away from us. Yes, we know that lightning can ignite fires, but when accompanied by a good amount of rain the chances lessen.
    Because we have had a substantial amount of rain, the lakes have been higher than average for this time of year. That means the creeks have been flowing, but also there are rocks that one would normally see, that are now below the surface.
    Because things begin to slow down toward the end of August, the guys finally got some time to go fishing. This month they chose to go out after dark to see what they could capture. Toward the end of Moose Lake where one goes through the narrows to get to Newfound Lake, the guys seemed to have found a "honey hole" where the bass seemed to be having a convention. Hence, it was this 20 inch, 5 pound beauty that he pulled out. Obviously, it was too large to keep. So, Willy gave it a pat on the head, carefully released it, and sent it home to have more babies.
    We have been excited to see more children visiting and learning about the north woods. This youngster landed a 26 inch, 6-7 pound northern and was very excited about his catch.
    This bass was about 17-18 inches and about 3.5 pounds. A good time was had by all.
    Each year we put out sugar and water filled humming bird feeders to help nourish our feathered friends from the south. This year we were able to capture 2 of about the ten or so residents. Because they move so very quickly, it is difficult to get pictures of them. They leave about the first weekend in September to fly all the way to South America. Yes, they do stop along the way to "refuel". We are always totally amazed as to how they make their journey.
    Even though it is only August, we would encourage you to think about reservations for next summer.
